FAQ

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The scan, the image fingerprints and the comparisons all run on your phone, and no image, thumbnail or photo metadata is ever sent anywhere. What does leave the phone is small and never about your pictures: the check that you have bought the app, your swipe counter and your totals so that clearing the app's data does not wipe them, and anonymous, coarsely bucketed usage statistics you can switch off in Settings. The advertising in the free version is given nothing from your library either.

Can I get a photo back if I discard it by mistake?

Yes, twice over. What you discard first lands in GigaBack's own review list, which you can undo one item at a time or restore entirely. When you confirm, everything moves to your phone's trash — Recently Deleted on iOS, the trash on Android — where the system keeps it for 30 days before removing it.

What does the free version actually include?

Unlimited scanning and the complete report, 50 swipes a day, sorting by month, the internal trash and the freed-space stats. You see the exact number of screenshots, every duplicate group and every oversized video. It also carries a banner at the bottom of the screen. The purchase lifts the daily limit, unlocks the bulk clean-ups and removes the banner.

Does the free version show advertising?

Yes: one banner at the bottom of the screen, including while you swipe. It never covers a photo, it never takes over the screen between two actions, and it is kept well clear of the keep and discard controls so your thumb cannot hit it by accident. The ad network is never given a photo, a thumbnail or anything at all about your library. Buying the app removes the banner from every screen, immediately.

Is it a subscription?

No. GigaBack is one purchase, made once through the App Store or Google Play, at the price your store shows in your own currency. There is no renewal and nothing to cancel. On a new phone, "Restore purchases" brings it back from the same store account. A refund goes through the store too, and the app simply returns to the free version.

Does it work without an internet connection?

The sorting does. Swiping, the trash, duplicate detection and your counters all work with no connection, and nothing on screen ever waits for the network. The banner and the purchase check do need one, and your counters catch up on their own the next time you are online.
